Derek J. Mayhugh is an associate in the Insurance Defense Practice Group. After joining the firm as a law clerk in 2016, he was hired as an associate in 2018. His practice focuses primarily on casualty defense, including construction defect, personal injury, and premises liability, but Mr. Mayhugh has also worked in environmental coverage and mass tort litigation.
Derek brings a diverse set of experiences to his practice, including previous work as a regulatory coordinator preparing appellate litigation before the Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals, a Drexel Honors Co-Op placement with the Honorable Anne Lazarus of the Pennsylvania Superior Court, and time as a clinical counselor for court-ordered clientele on probation or parole in his native Colorado. Weaving together his experience before a diverse set of regulatory and appellate bodies, Mr. Mayhugh brings a measured touch to both his trial-level and appellate litigation.
Mr. Mayhugh attended the University of Denver for his undergraduate education, graduating magna cum laude with dual degrees in psychology and sociology. He later attended the Thomas R. Kline School of Law at Drexel University where he attained his juris doctor with honors. Mr. Mayhugh is a member of the Pennsylvania and New Jersey bars.
